For my senior capstone project, I worked for nine months on designs for an endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) device.
I acted as project manager, scrum master, and mechanical engineer. At the end of our project, I took the lead on visual design and editing of our final materials. We followed a product design process: ideation, sketching, prototyping, fabrication, testing, and usability testing. We presented three prototyped and tested designs to Boston Scientific's Captivator EMR team to resoundingly good feedback. We applied for patents on our designs through Boston Scientific in the summer after our project. |

Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) is a minimally invasive treatment options used to remove potentially cancerous tissues from the upper gastrointestinal tract. EMR is done to treat Barrett's esophagus and early gastric cancer patients. About two million Americans suffer from Barrett's esophagus, and 100,000 from gastric cancer. |
