In fall of 2013 as one of my first Olin projects, I worked on a team of students to design a mechanical toy and game for fifth grade students. My team designed a mechanical pangolin toy that could move and curl into a ball to mimic actual pangolins.
As it is one of Olin's first projects, the goal was to get us acclimated to use of Solidworks and mechanical design principles. The materials available to us mostly consisted of delrin plastic and small servo motors. We also incorporated pink insulation foam and fishing line. My primary contributions to the project were in assisting with the design of the curling mechanism and I am singularly responsible for the external design of the pangolin. We then created a game for fifth-grade students to play to interact with our toy. |
